Despite being rural, we are within easy reach of the A488 - A49 - Ludlow, Church Stretton and Welshpool. Bishop's Castle and Clun are each only four miles away.

CLUN - 13th century packhorse bridge, Trinity Almshouses, church, castle and museum. Green Man day held first Monday in May.

BISHOP'S CASTLE - two breweries, The Six Bells and the Three Tuns. Festivals held throughout the year, Heritage Resource Centre for local and family history, House on Crutches and Railway Museum.

On the way to Ludlow is Stokesay Castle (English Heritage), a fortified manor house and well worth a visit.

LUDLOW - awarded England's first 'cittaslow' town. June and July is the annual Shakespearan Festival held within the medieval castle ruins and followed in September by the Food and drink Festival, Ludlow is famed for its many excellent restaurants.

CHURCH STRETTON - lies at the foot of the Longmynd Hills, amazing scenery over vast areas of heathland. Located on the summit is the Glider station.

ACTON SCOTT - a small hamlet near Church Stretton is the setting for the BBC's Victorian Farm.

Just over the border into Wales is Powis Castle.

Bishop's Castle

Much closer to New House is the only Wolf Sanctuary in England - here you can observe wolves in natural surroundings. Between Newcastle on Clun and the Anchor is the Nature Reserve of Rhos Fiddle. This heath upland retains many native plant species with curlews, merlins, and brown hares. Here too is 'Moorhall', the workshops of the renowned Textile Artist and Designer Bobby Britnell.
